Met Office's Supercomputer site to open to public

One of the country’s most important construction projects is opening up to the public between 15-17 June to highlight job opportunities in the sector. 

Willmott Dixon is currently building a home for the Met Office’s new Supercomputer in Exeter Science Park.  When operational, the computer will perform more than 16,000 trillion calculations per second with 120,000 times more memory than a top-end smartphone; it is also expected to deliver £2bn of socio-economic benefits to the UK.

Next week, the public can see inside the building that will house the supercomputer as Willmott Dixon takes part in Open Doors week.

Open Doors is a construction industry event that gives people a unique chance to see behind the scenes at major ‘live’ construction sites.

Schools, universities, career changers and local communities are being encouraged to book a tour through the open doors website www.opendoors.construction and find out more about how the buildings and structures are constructed and the range of skills needed on site.

It comes as Willmott Dixon recently opened an Exeter office at 5 Park Five Business Centre to spearhead expansion across the South West. The move will create a number of local jobs over the next 12 months, with nearly ten people based full-time in the office and a further nine using it when working on local sites.
