Devon Open Studios comes to The Beehive

Bringing their own unique interpretation of the magic of the landscape, four Devon artists have joined together to showcase their talents at The Beehive gallery in Honiton for Devon Open Studios.

In what promises to be a visual delight of differing styles, ranging from the soft fairy sculptures of Norma Walton, the vibrantly patterned oils and acrylics of Vanessa Nancarrow, the colour and sparkle of Nikki Jolley’s flower fields, and the dramatic, contemporary oil paintings by Julie Dunster, visitors will be spoilt for choice.

With original artworks and cards available to purchase and take away on the day, and prints available to order, there will be artworks to suit whatever your budget.

The gallery will be open in the Beehive’s standard opening hours, Monday to Friday 10 a.m. until 5.30 p.m. and often in the evenings when there are films or events on, it will be open later. Do ring to check on 01404 384050.

About the artists:

Nikki Jolley  “I paint on high quality, deep edge canvas and thick watercolour papers. I enjoy using different types of paint and love using mixed media, predominately acrylics, watercolours, inks, texture gels, glosses and fine glitters to create that explosion of gorgeous colour and sparkle that I love.
My aim is to create affordable, beautiful works of art. Original artwork that makes an impact, that is full of colour and gives the viewer a feeling of warmth, happiness and creates a smile”.

Vanessa Nancarrow “My emotional response to the natural beauty seen from my studio window, in a wild, isolated Devon valley, finds expression in vibrant patterned oils and acrylics. I discovered the enchantment of colour while creating costume and theatre designs as a student, and have developed my work in watercolour, acrylics and mixed media.

Norma Walton  Multi-talented, Norma previously exhibited her photography for Devon Open Studios. This year, she demonstrates her skills with soft sculpture, creating delicate, characterful fairies that will be suspended between the paintings, as if taking flight through the magical landscapes.

Julie Dunster This well renowned local artist brought the Beehive gallery to life earlier this year with her evocative, atmospheric landscapes, with restful sunsets, breathtaking Turneresque cloudscapes and powerful seascapes. Using traditional oil painting techniques, such as scumbling and glazing, Julie’s aim is to “press life’s pause button” and respond to the magic present in any landscape.
