Pop artist's work on show in Exeter
Internationally renowned artist Romero Britto has teamed up with Washington Green, the UK’s leading fine art publisher, to release a new collection of works in his iconic style.
Available to buy at Castle Fine Art, Exeter from Friday, the newly curated collection gives art lovers the opportunity to enjoy and buy this new exclusive body of work on British soil for the first time.
In his signature Pop Art style, the collection – self-titled ‘Romero Britto’ – features vibrant colour, playful themes and hard‐edged compositions. Comprising a series of hand signed limited edition sculptures and canvas prints, Britto’s bright and bold creations are designed to evoke feelings of happiness, hope and love.
Brazilian‐born and Miami‐made, the self-taught artist was inspired by the works of Matisse and Picassso in his youth, before finding fame in America in the 1980s where Pop Art was flourishing.
Explaining why optimism is the source of his artistic influence, Britto says: "Art can make you look at something in an exciting and totally different way. It can give you the power to 'fly'. I get my inspiration from simple things in life…from beautiful things that happen around me, things that make me happy and leave me inspired!”
In an exciting new partnership, this will be the first time the acclaimed artist has teamed up with a fine art publisher based in the UK.
Ian Weatherby-Blythe, Managing Director for Washington Green’s nationwide network of high street galleries; Castle Fine Art and Castle Galleries, said: “Romero Britto is one of the most celebrated artists of our time – expressionistic and vibrant, his work is universal. Drawing upon Cubist and Pop Art influences, Britto has created a new and inspiring trademark style recognised the world over.
“Our new never before seen collection in collaboration with Britto provides the British public with the opportunity to buy his work in the UK for the first time. We anticipate the collection will appeal to a broad spectrum of collectors and art lovers alike.”
Having exhibited in 30 countries across 4 continents, and collaborated with some of the most famous global brands including Coca Cola, Bentley and Disney, Britto has captivated audiences worldwide with his art that, as The New York Times described, “exudes warmth, optimism and love.” Earlier this year he was named Olympic Ambassador for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games – as a global representative for the event Britto will be rallying fans worldwide through his art.
Britto is also dedicated to engaging children in arts education and literacy programs. Through his namesake company, Britto Central, Inc., he serves as a benefactor, donating time, art and resources to more than 250 charitable organizations – most recently The Prince’s Trust, to which he was appointed Director and Trustee in May 2015.
Hand signed limited edition prints and sculptures are available to buy from Castle Fine Art, Exeter, 18 Cathedral Yard, EX1 1HB from Friday 14th August and start from £595.00.
