Join Dick Whittington and his faithful feline friend Tommy on their quest to seek fame and fortune in the city of London, where the streets are paved with gold and the evil King Rat dwells. Dick dreams of being Lord Mayor of London. However, he is going to need all the help he can get to prove his innocence to win back the love of the beautiful Alice, and triumph over King Rat and his rancid rat pack. Funkadelic Disco New Year's Eve Party

New Year's Day horse racing
Exeter Racecourse
New Year’s Day on Haldon Hill is a great Devon tradition and folk from far and wide gather at the racecourse to toast the first day of the year. It’s the perfect day out for anyone who is new to racing with a great atmosphere guaranteed. The first race is at 12.40pm. Tickets £10-£20. Tickets are available from the online box office or via the ticket hotline on 08445 793005. A free bus leaves Exeter St David’s at 11am and the Bus & Coach Station 11.15am, returning half an hour after the last race.

Portland Street Advent Project

Until 31 December: sfimedia Ltd have turned Portland Street in Exeter into a giant Advent calendar. Each day throughout December one and sometimes two new window displays will be revealed by residents in the street. The very last window is in The Globe facing Portland Street on Christmas Eve. An Artistic Festive Treat
Café at 36, Cowick Street, Exeter
The Cafe at 36 is hosting a pop-up art gallery which has been coordinated by Devon Art Pop - a group of artists collaborating to run pop-up galleries around Devon. All of the original and authentic art work is for sale, and 10% of proceeds will be donated to the Arctic Challenge fund currently being raised by Sue and John, owners of the Cafe, in support of Age UK Exeter. The exhibition runs until 5 January.

Watercolours by Rachel Toll
Boston Tea Party, Queen Street, Exeter
Local watercolour artist, Rachel Toll, is holding an exhibition of her work in Exeter’s Boston Tea Party on Queen Street which is open until 4 January.  Inspired by Devon’s beautiful surroundings, Rachel’s watercolours feature the coast and plants that grow here.

Bettina Buck invites Marie Lund

This exhibition - Bettina Buck invites Marie Lund - marks the fourth and last in a series of exhibitions where artist Bettina Buck has invited a particular artist and practice into a close dialogue to explore common or shared interests. In different ways the exhibitions circle around notions of duration and change, the fragility and de-familiarisation of materials, and narrative structures. The exhibition runs until 22 February and the gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am-5pm. www.spacex.org.uk
