Looking for the perfect gift can be a real challenge at times. If you know the person really well, or they have told you exactly what they want, it isn’t so bad, but if you are buying for a relative or acquaintance, you may not have a clue what to buy.

Food hampers are a great gift for many reasons. Everyone loves good food and drink, so a hamper filled with delicious treats will always be welcome, particularly at Christmastime. Hampers from British Fine Foods are a good place to start, as you can create your own food hamper and fill it with goodies you know the recipient will love.

Choosing a Hamper

Creating a food hamper is really easy. To start with, choose a suitable basket or box for your products. Picnic hampers are a good choice because they can be re-used for picnics or as a cute storage basket once all the delicious food products have been eaten. Remember, the larger the basket, the more you can fit in, so if you are creating a food hamper for a family as opposed to an individual, look for a larger basket or box.

Decorate the Hamper

If you decide to use a box as your hamper, you will need to decorate it before you fill it up. This can be done using coloured gift wrapping paper, or tissue paper. For a festive hamper, wrap your box in Christmas paper and decorate it with ribbon.

Baskets don’t need to be wrapped, but like boxes, they will need some filling inside to protect the products. Shredded tissue paper is a good choice, as there is a good range of colours to choose from. Alternatively, use clean straw.

Pick Your Products

You can add any products you like to a hamper, but since hampers are intended to be a more personal gift, it is better to choose items you know the recipient will appreciate. Hampers often follow a theme.

For example, if the person has a sweet tooth, fill the hamper up with chocolate related products, such as fine chocolates, drinking chocolate and chocolate biscuits. Cheese and wine hampers are also a good choice. Choose a selection of fine cheeses and add some delicious savoury biscuits plus a bottle or two of wine or port. Another good idea is an artisan coffee hamper: fill your basket with freshly roasted coffee beans or filter coffee. Lastly, why not create a luxury hamper and pack it with fine foods and a bottle of champagne. This is bound to go down a treat!

Wrap the Hamper

If you have opted to use a picnic basket, you only need to close the lid, but an open basket or box can be protected with cellophane wrapping and tied up with a decorate ribbon.
Hand deliver your gift hamper or organise for it to be delivered by a reputable company, but don’t forget to include a gift card if you can’t deliver the hamper in person.
