#6 - Get a Dog

Would you be happy to sit on your couch watching Netflix for days on end? Is your idea of getting fresh air opening the window in your car? Getting a dog will change all that. Provided you are properly set up to look after a cute canine, dogs are a great way to get more exercise while still having a lot of fun. Most dogs need to be walked at least twice a day, and they don’t really mind where. Also, nothing will get you out of the house faster than adorable puppy eyes staring at you! If you’re looking for some fun and companionship as well as a guarantee of getting out and about, visit your local shelter and bring home a new best friend.

#5 – Dump the Car

It’s so easy to get into the habit of driving everywhere. But, when you think about it, you don’t need to take the car every time you go out. Invest in a bicycle and start using it for short trips, and maybe even commutes. Not only will you get fit, you’ll save a fortune on fuel. Plus, a pleasant cycle is a good way to start off the work day. Just make sure you wear a helmet and follow the rules of the road.

#4 – Go to a Class

Working out alone isn’t a lot of fun, but it’s different when a group of you are doing it together. There’s a sense of camaraderie, you can meet new people, and the instructor will make sure you’re doing everything right while staying motivated. Sign up for a yoga or Zumba class and enjoy learning something new while being part of a friendly group.

#3 – Sign Up for a New Activity

Getting fit seems like a lot of hard work when it’s what you specifically go out to do. But if you do something entertaining that just happens to give you a workout, then that’s a whole different matter. Look for local amateur sports teams in your area and sign up. Whether it’s rock climbing, football, or geocaching, getting out there and doing something physical is a lot more fun when you’re part of a team. You’ll get healthier without even noticing!

#2 – Fight!

If you don’t enjoy signing up for teams or classes, there is a third option. Learning a skill like martial arts or boxing is the perfect way to get fit while enjoying yourself. Pound the day’s frustrations away on a punch bag in a boxing class, or join a karate club to kick and chop your way to health. Once you start learning and practicing technique, you won’t even remember that this counts as exercise.

#1 – Swim Some Laps

Working out might not be your favourite pastime, but swimming has a lot of merits. Not only will you give your whole body a workout, you’ll feel relaxed afterwards. Being in the water is soothing, and swimming is a great way to release tension. If you don’t know how to swim, look for an adult class in your area. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to learn, and you won’t be the only one starting from scratch!
