Travelling from Exeter Airport with the kids?
Travelling abroad with children can be a stressful experience, especially if you’re taking the kids on a long-haul flight, or if it’s their first ever flight and they are very young. Making sure that everything is organised and going smoothly is important if you’re flying with the kids in tow, however this can be a lot harder to achieve than it sounds – after all, any parent will tell you that things don’t always go to plan, no matter how hard you try. If you’re planning a family holiday which departs from Exeter Airport, we’ve got some great tips for you to help make sure that everything goes well.
Planning Ahead
Write a checklist of everything that you need to do, and stick it on your fridge door or somewhere else that you know you will see it. This, way, there’ll be no last minute dash back home or panicking at check-in when you realise that you’ve forgot an important item such as formula milk or somebody’s favourite teddy bear or comfort blanket. Carefully list everything that needs to be packed in both your hold and cabin luggage bags, and cross off each item as you pack it so that you know exactly what you’ve packed and what you haven’t.
Also consider booking a room in a hotel for the night before you fly. The Magdalen Chapter Hotel is a good choice. This will help ensure that every member of the family gets a good night’s sleep the day before the flight, reducing the amount of issues you should be faced with on the actual day of travel.
Preparing for the Flight
Keeping little ones occupied on aeroplanes can be a bit of a task. Once the initial novelty of being on an aeroplane has worn off, children can easily get bored, restless and irritable – quickly causing you to feel flustered and embarrassed, especially if they begin to get on other passengers’ nerves. Take toys for them to play with on the flight, or take along a tablet or iPad which has pre-downloaded kids’ movies on it for them to watch on the way. Some parents of younger kids swear by booking flights in the evening or at times of the day when they know that their child will be having a nap, so that they will sleep through the majority of the flight.
Family Holiday Essentials
When you take your kids on holiday abroad, you need to pack a lot more than you would if you were going on your own or as a couple. Keeping kids safe in the sun is crucial, as the harmful rays of the sun in high-temperature climates can cause a lot more damage to their sensitive young skin. Factor 50 sunscreen is an absolute must, and you can buy this at a number of shops at the airport. However, it’s important to remember that liquids in your cabin luggage must not exceed 100ml and fit into the plastic bag provided, so if you plan on stocking up on a large amount of sunscreen it will need to go in your hold cases.
