Staff and volunteers are getting into the Christmas spirit at our Exeter hospice.

Every day grateful Exeter people are popping in to the city hospice with gifts including hampers, boxes of chocolates, biscuits, cakes, candles and flowers.

The hospice, in the grounds of the RD&E, is decorated with six Christmas trees and festive flowers beautifully arranged by our volunteer flower ladies.

Hospiscare patron Lady Clarissa Clifford visited with presents, while Marina Cornall from St David’s donated a lovely large Christmas floral display which her mother-in-law Joan Cornall won in a raffle. “We appreciate the work you do. It‘s just amazing here,” said Marina.

Our staff and volunteers enjoyed a carol service led by chaplain Nigel Mason with songs and carols from the Hospiscare Choir. Hospiscare chefs cooked a wonderful Christmas lunch for staff and volunteers.

We held a fundraising Christmas jumper day and the Hospiscare Christmas Review was held, with staff performing a variety of sketches, but we can’t tell you about that – what happens in the Review room stays in the Review room!

The chapel has a lovely display of stars with personalised messages remembering loved ones at Christmas.

Our staff and volunteers will be working over Christmas here at the hospice and we’d like to wish Exeter Daily readers a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year.
