Police promise to hold perpetrators of violent disorder in Teignmouth to account
Police in Teignmouth are currently investigating a large scale disorder which took place in Northumberland Place in the early hours of Sunday 4 August.
It is believed up to 15 people were involved in the disorder, some of whom had been inside Kools nightclub prior to the disorder breaking out.
Local officers responded to the incident at around 2pm but due to scale and numbers involved had serious concerns for their safety and had to deploy captor spray. Response officers were deployed from Totnes to back up their colleagues in Teignmouth and were able to disperse the crowd.
No injuries have been reported to the police as a result of this disorder.
Police are treating the matter extremely seriously and are in the process of reviewing CCTV and gathering evidence to establish exactly what happened and identify those persons involved.
No arrests have yet been made but officers are expecting to make a number of arrests as a result of their enquiries.
Inspector Chris Shaw said: “This is a serious incident of disorder and we will not tolerate this behaviour. We want to reassure the local community that the police are investigating the matter as a priority and will be taking action against those involved. Incidents of this nature have a huge impact on the local community and it is our aim to ensure those responsible are held accountable.”
Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen what happened in the early hours of Sunday morning and ask anyone with any information to contact enquiry centre on 101 quoting crime reference number JG/13 1426 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
