Choirs collaborate for cancer cause

Three choirs present Summer Sing – “a joyous, uplifting evening of singing” – in Exeter on Friday, July 8, to help people with cancer and their families. Music Birds’ Exeter, Exminster and Topsham choirs will perform for holistic cancer charity Penny Brohn UK at St Matthew’s Hall, Lower Summerlands, from 8pm, doors at 7.30pm. English National Opera debut for former Exeter Chorister

An opera singer from Devon who started his musical life as a Chorister in Exeter Cathedral Choir made his debut with English National Opera earlier this week.

David Webb, who sang with the Cathedral Choir in the 1990s, made his ENO debut in Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde on 9th June in a new production conducted by Edward Gardner. In a recent interview with Toby Deller he speaks fondly of his time in Exeter Cathedral Choir, then under the direction of Lucian Nethsingtha.

A storm of a concert with The High C's community choir and Dartmoor choir The Lost Sound A cappella chorus coming together to raise money for The Helen Foundation charity.

The charity was recently acknowledged by No 10 with Founder Annie Kirk being invited by Sam Cameron to discuss their work along with other charities across the UK.

The Lost Sound recently supported Steve Knightley, from Show of Hands on his solo tour last September and are already booked to sing in Bristol, Glas-Denbury and Torbay Song Festival this summer.

Christmas carols broadcast from University chapel

A selection of the South West’s finest choirs have come together to take part in BBC Spotlight’s much loved series of festive broadcasts.

Four choirs and a soloist representing Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset each recorded two of their favourite Christmas carols in the Mary Harris Memorial Chapel, on the University of Exeter’s Streatham Campus.

Each night of the week beginning the 16 December one of the choirs will perform on BBC Spotlight, during a series of special broadcasts. Representing Devon, the University of Exeter’s Chapel choir of 16 choral scholars singers...
