Spectacular baroque concert coming to Exeter Cathedral

Following their Exeter debut in 2013 Blackdowns Early Music Projects return to the Cathedral 7.30pm August 31st with another programme of spectacular baroque choral works performed by an impressive line up of musicians.

Musical Director JanJoost van Elburg will conduct the combined expertise of The Monteverdi String Band, His Majesty’s Sagbutts and Cornetts, the Altenburg Trumpet Ensemble and vocal soloists from the country’s top ensembles, as well as a talented group of singers from all over the UK and Europe.

Exeter University's Chapel Choir give an evening concert to include works from their varied repertoire. Major works include Stanford "For lo, I raise up" and Parry "I was glad"

The choir's Organist and Director of Music is Michael Graham. Michael also directs Budleigh Salterton Male Voice Choir and Exeter College Choral Society and is the founder and Artistic Director of Exodus. He is a full time member of Exeter Cathedral Choir.

A Night at the Opera

Join Exeter Choral Society for a Night at the Opera on Wednesday 6 May 2015.

Exeter Choral Society will be performing Puccini Messa di Gloria and popular operatic choruses and arias, under the direction of Laurence Blyth.

Welsh tenor Andrew Henley will be making a welcome return, taking time out of a Glyndebourne season to join us. We also look forward to hearing local soloists Heloise West and Julian Rippon.

The concert is supporting local charity, Headway Devon, which helps people with acquired brain injury, from illness such as meningitis or accident.

The Sixteen and Harry Christophers take a trip back to 16th-century Spain and more specifically to one of the biggest, richest and most cosmopolitan cities on earth - Seville. It was during this Spanish ‘golden age’ when arts and culture flourished, that Francisco Guerrero and Alonso Lobo made their mark. Between them these two composers capture an astonishing variety of moods within their music, from ecstasy and joy to despair, longing and devotional stillness.

Choral Society features the work of an Exeter School pupil for the first time

For the first time, Exeter School’s Choral Society concert features the work of one its very own pupils.

Upper Sixth Former Fionn Connolly, who has recently received an offer to read Music at Cambridge University, composed Ring on Ring inspired by the poetry of Sylvia Plath.

The school community of about 130 pupils alongside parents, staff, alumni and friends of Exeter School, accompanied by a full professional orchestra, will perform Fionn’s piece on Thursday 19 March 2015 in Exeter Cathedral.
