£47,000 given to local charities

The success of the Exeter Foundation was highlighted in all its glory as 18 local charities and organisations were rewarded at Saturday night’s Season Launch Dinner held at Sandy Park.

A grand total of £47,000 – raised through various fundraising activities last season, including match-day bucket collections – was distributed to the charities and organisations following another hugely successful year for the charity by the Lord Mayor, Olwen Foggin.

Legendary commentator praises Chiefs

Legendary rugby commentator Ian Robertson has revealed Sandy Park is one of his favourite grounds to visit.

The former Barbarian was the guest speaker at the pre-season dinner at Sandy Park in aid of The Exeter Foundation.

After entertaining the 300-plus audience with his anecdotes on Saturday night, he revealed his passion for the Exeter Chiefs.

He said he loved visiting Sandy Park and would be back in November.

Mr Robertson also praised the achievements of head coach Rob Baxter and the team.

Early risers raise charity cash

Several staff and friends of Exeter PR, marketing and design agency Astley Media had an early start to their Bank Holiday Sunday after offering to volunteer at the weekly Matford Car Boot Sale.

The 11-strong team helped out with everything from collecting money on the gate and litter picking afterwards.

In return they received a substantial donation which will go towards the Exeter Chiefs charity, the Exeter Foundation.

Devon Sports Awards finalists announced

The finalists for the prestigious 2015 Exeter Foundation Devon Sports Awards have been announced.

The Awards, which are being held at Exeter venue Sandy Park on the 8th May, attracted a record number of nominations from sports varying from archery, athletics and Tae Kwon-do to sailing, skateboarding and table tennis.

The judging panel, coordinated by Active Devon, who are overseeing the Awards together with the Exeter Foundation, have narrowed the nominations down to 26 finalists in seven categories from an extremely strong pool of entries.

Date change for Big Walk

With an extremely busy couple of months coming up at Sandy Park, the Exeter Foundation’s annual Big Walk has been postponed until September.

The event will now take place on Sunday, 20th September, coinciding with the opening weekend of the Rugby World Cup.

The 10-mile sponsored walk, which last year raised several thousand pounds for the Exeter Foundation, starts and finishes at Rugby World Cup venue Sandy Park and takes in a flat, scenic route through the Exe Valley.

WESC Foundation's result at Sandy Park

More than 40 staff, supporters and learners at WESC Foundation collected £1439 at Sandy Park on Saturday, when Exeter Chiefs played against London Welsh, winning 74/19 to storm into second place in the Premiership.

WESC Foundation was founded in 1838 and is based on the Topsham Road in Exeter. The charity is dedicated to sharing knowledge, expertise and technologies through effective partnerships and transforming the lives of those affected by visual impairment.

Britain’s most decorated male swimmer Mark Foster has been confirmed as the guest speaker at this year’s Exeter Foundation Devon Sports Awards, held in association with Active Devon.
