A paediatrician and a hospital manager at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital have raised £430 for a local Cystic Fibrosis (CF) charity by spending a day in a CF patient’s shoes to raise awareness of the condition.

Rachael Phillips, a medical lab assistant at the RD&E, has signed up to ‘Brave the Shave’ and have her hair cut off for Macmillan Cancer Support on 4th September.
Macmillan provides specialist support to people with cancer and their families. This summer they are asking people to stand proudly alongside men and women who have cancer and be sponsored to shave off their hair for the charity.

Well over a third of patients who suffered cardiac arrest at the RD&E Hospital in Exeter last year survived and were later discharged from hospital compared to 18% nationally, a clinical study has found. The latest National Cardiac Arrest Audit Report compared hospital cardiac arrest survival data for the period April-December 2014. Some 37.5% of patients at the RD&E survived and were later discharged compared to a national average of 18.4% at hospitals across England. Staff at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital are now benefiting from improved cycling facilities to encourage them to get on their bikes and enjoy a greener and cheaper commute to work.
The hospital has just unveiled a new state of the art cycle shelter in the grounds of its Wonford site, just outside Bowmoor House. The shelter offers a secure and dry place for staff to keep their bikes while they are in work and includes swipe card access and armoured underground cabling to prevent thieves cutting the power supply to the gate and roof. Patients at the Royal Devon and Exeter (RD&E) hospital can now benefit from a more convenient outpatient prescription service thanks to a new Boots pharmacy which has opened its doors to the public. The new Boots UK outpatient pharmacy service is located on the ground floor in the main hospital corridor. Staff at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital have raised £700 for Comic Relief by holding a Great Inter-Divisional Bake Off on Red Nose Day. Competition was fierce as staff from each division in the Trust – Specialist Services, Medicine and Surgery - put their culinary skills to the test and came up with all manner of baked confections for their divisional cake sales.
