Children’s play scheme celebrates ‘Good’ Ofsted rating

Teignbridge District Council’ childcare play scheme Teignstars is celebrating a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating.

Newton Abbot Leisure Centre has been working hard to achieve good grades with the help of the childcare team led by Childcare Officers Karen Bush and Lindsey Thorne.

Teignstars achieved a ‘good’ rating across the board for effectiveness of the leadership and management, quality of teaching, learning and assessment, personal development, and behaviour and welfare.

Teignbridge District Council is inviting expressions of interest for the former Beachcomber café and restaurant premises on the seafront at Teignmouth.

The 1,819 sq ft building is in a prominent location on Teignmouth seafront, close to the Green Flag-accredited Den with its children’s play areas, Seaside award-winning beach, Teignmouth Pier and Pavilions Teignmouth. It also comes with an option to lease an outdoor seating area on the promenade.

Following a recent boating accident in Teignmouth, resulting in local man Mark Prowse losing a leg.

There is to be a Benefit gig to be held at THE COVE Pub in Teignmouth on July 8th to raise funds for him..

The aim is to raise funds towards Mark having a fitted Prosthetic limb, to help get him mobile again & give him a better quality of life.. The event starts at 2.00pm with seven local live bands & artists playing throughout the day to closing.

It was always a bit of a tussle between Devon and London. Teignmouth born Solicitor Advocate Rachel Smith (pictured above) loved her job in London and her ability to support her beloved Chelsea Football club. But she also knew she wanted to return home to her family and her roots in Devon.

Swimming spots in Teignbridge have all reached ‘excellent’ bathing water quality standards.

Visitors to Teignbridge will be able to enjoy swimming in cleaner water than ever before thanks to huge strides made to improve water quality.

Teignbridge has welcomed the 2017 results of water testing at more than 400 outdoor swimming spots in England – called bathing waters - published today by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

Teignmouth flood defence scheme works complete

Work on Teignmouth’s flood defence scheme is now complete, helping protect people, homes and businesses from flooding for years to come.

The project started in February and focused on the repair, renewal and strengthening of the sea defence structure at the Point. Additional essential work was then carried out to tackle erosion found under the sea wall during the works.

Fire at landmark Teignmouth cafe

Three appliances from Teignmouth, Dawlish and Torquay, and an Operational Assurance Officer, were mobilised to the Beachcomber Café in Teignmouth, following several calls reporting a fire.

Immediately upon arrival of the first appliance, the assistance of a fourth fire engine was requested. This was mobilised from Paignton.
