Coastal Recycling wins major green waste contract
Coastal Recycling has been awarded a ten year contract to process green waste collected from the kerbside and from Household Waste Recycling Centres on behalf of Devon County Council.
This will enable the firm to continue their award-winning composting service, converting green waste into quality compost to be used in the production of food and farming.
Starting in April 2017, the deal will see Coastal Recycling expanding to process an estimated 42,000 tonnes of organic waste, such as plants, grass and garden cuttings.
The waste will be processed from five sites across Devon, where it will be shredded, screened, and managed to maturity until it has transformed into a PAS 100 standard organic soil conditioner.
Coastal Recycling has held this sub-contract for over a decade as part of the company’s wider recycling services. This latest arrangement, worth an estimated £11m with a potential contract extension of four years.
In addition to the existing team, two new jobs will be created across Devon to run the operation.
Steve Hadley, Coastal Recycling’s Managing Director commented, “This is a significant contract win for Coastal and reflects the efficiency of our operations to date. This closed loop process is a win-win solution.
"It a continued solution, saving Devon’s green waste, which will benefit farmers’ fields, reducing chemical input and increasing crop yields. We look forward to continuing to work with Devon County Council and in turn contributing to our county’s agricultural economy.”
Coastal Recycling have been recognised for their green waste scheme by the National Recycling Awards, who have shortlisted the firm for Best Business Partnership. The results will be announced at the awards ceremony in July.
