Charlotte Harding, her mum, Sue and friend Mouna Souyad all have a very special reason to take part in next month’s Exeter Neon Night Run.

Exeter Hospiscare nurses and doctors cared for their good friend Mary Christopher at the city’s Searle House Hospice.

The Neon Run, on Saturday 28 May, will raise funds for the hospice which is a local charity, helping local people.

Charlotte, 22, said: “We were just blown away by the care and I think it’s really important that people know about the work that Hospiscare does. Mary was in the hospice for a few weeks and I visited her regularly while mum, her childhood friend and best friend, visited every day.

“Mum could not praise the staff enough, they were so helpful and did anything we asked for. She was able to stay overnight with Mary, and also that the staff allowed her to bring in our dog in the day time, who Mary loved, which brought a smile to her, the other patients and the staff. The atmosphere was very relaxed. It’s the best place possible you could wish for.

“Hospiscare is a charity very close to our hearts and we want to allow them to continue helping others with the amazing work they do. Any donation, small or big will make a huge difference to someone’s life.

“We took part in last year’s run and loved it and I’ve been urging everyone I know to join in, you don’t have to be a great runner, you can walk it, it’s not very far. It’s really good fun, with lots of people wearing lots of neon and just a great atmosphere!”

Already more than 500 people have signed up for the 5k sponsored run starts and finishes at the University of Exeter, with runners being entertained by music as they head towards the city centre.

Hospiscare’s events fundraiser Celia Wilkinson said: “Our Neon Wonderland will open an hour before the run starts, giving you the opportunity to freshen up your face paints and glow in our music tent.

"There will be three splatter stations along the route where you will be covered from head to toe in neon paint. Be prepared to get messy and glow!”

This year the Exeter Neon Night Run is being sponsored by Everys solicitors.

It costs £20 per person which includes includes a Neon Night Run t-shirt, refreshments on the night and some goodies to get you runners glowing.
