Kitsons raise £5k in Three Peaks Challenge
Twenty-four members of staff from leading Devon law firm Kitsons braved the elements and successfully overcame the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.
Their reward for completing what is known as one of the toughest challenges in the UK was raising more than £5,000 for Diabetes UK in memory of their colleague Mark Batten.
Mark, who was Chief Cashier at Kitsons, passed away suddenly in March 2014. He worked at Kitsons for over 35 years and was a prominent and well liked member of the firm.
On Saturday 11th July 2015, four teams of walkers and one team of runners from Kitsons’ three offices in Exeter, Torquay and Plymouth, took on the ‘Miles for Mark’ challenge, covering 24 miles of steep climbs and descents across Pen-y-ghent (694m), Whernside (736m) and Ingleborough (723m). These peaks form part of the Pennine range and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
James Cross, Managing Partner at Kitsons said: “The Yorkshire Three Peaks is not an easy challenge and everyone at Kitsons is very proud of the commitment their colleagues have made to this fundraising event. Not only have they signed up to the day, but they have undertaken a grueling training regime to ensure they are fit and ready to take on the peaks.
"Our reason for taking on this challenge was to honour the memory of our friend and colleague, Mark Batten. As Mark had a link with Diabetes UK, it seemed the natural choice for this fundraising effort and we would like to thank everyone who has donated for this very worthy cause – it is a great tribute to Mark.”
