Exeter Chiefs for sale (there is a catch)
The very first set is to be revealed tomorrow on Exeter’s official MONOPOLY board.
It’s a set of sports landmarks in the city, led by Exeter Chiefs.
The board will be revealed in spectacular style next month, when it is launched in Exeter city centre. To mark the launch a gigantic five foot by foot square replica of the board will be unfurled in the city centre as MR MONOPOLY – the board’s icon – hands out signed MONOPOLY dollars to shoppers.
If you land on The Chiefs – whose ground will be showcased all over the world when the Rugby World Cup 2015 kicks off later this month - it will set you back one hundred and sixty MONOPOLY dollars to buy (less than £150). Dollars are the universal MONOPOLY currency.
In the London original MONOPOLY board The Chiefs’ site is Northumberland Avenue. The Chiefs’ ground, Sandy Park, is co-hosting the earlier stages of the rugby tournament. The first game takes place at the end of this month.
The Chiefs site is part of a pink set – which is sports themed - in the more moderately priced section of the board, just after the MONOPOLY jail and heavily landed on and statistically are one of the sets landed on most often.
"These are populist landmarks in real life and now Exeter MONOPOLY life!” says Dan Taylor, Head of Custom Games at Winning Moves UK.
Exeter has been described as the city too posh to have an Old Kent road on its very own official MONOPOLY board.
It hit the national headlines earlier in the year, as social media went into meltdown, after it was claimed Devon’s ancient capital city was just too well-heeled to have its’ own equivalent of Old Kent Road. So who is Old Kent Road? “All will be revealed when the board is launched on October 14th,” adds Mr Taylor. “We plan a day of celebration for the city – giving out MONOPOLY dollars and unfurling an enormous replica of the board in Exeter city centre.”
In all, 22 MONOPOLY property sites will take on an Exeter flavour and feel, with the Chance and Community Chest playing cards heavily customised too.
Winning Moves are the makers of this unique board under official license from MONOPOLY owners Hasbro. The board will be available at all good toy and book stores from October 14th including at Argos, Smyths, Waterstones and WH Smith. The board will also be very widely available online, including amazon.co.uk
