£100k tennis courts for EGCC
Just in time for the Wimbledon Championships, Exeter Golf and Country Club have announced they will invest £100,000 in new tennis courts.
The club, who first installed tennis courts in the 1930s will close four of the six courts at the end of September so the work can be completed outside the main tennis season.
The four courts will be removed entirely and re-built with a new foundation, asphalt base and artificial grass surface. The club has a commitment to recycling and sustainability which has been carried through this project. The existing court surfaces will be used to replace gravel around the courts and in the outdoor seating areas.
The courts are being re-built with the highest quality artificial grass which is the court surface favoured by club members for top playability and for its limited impact on the joints and muscles. The new courts will replace the old ones which have been in place since the late 1980s. The new courts are set to be the best artificial grass outdoor courts in the region that can be used all year round.
Chris Jones, General Manager said, “We have been planning on re-building the tennis courts for a few years and so this is a significant development for the club and for our popular tennis section. This project is part of a wider redevelopment that includes refurbishing our café and the extensive improvement work to our golf course.
“At the end of these projects, Exeter Golf and Country Club will be home to the best golf hole in the region and the best outdoor tennis courts, along with the only heated outdoor pool surrounded by a beautiful Victorian walled garden and a new spa with world-renowned ESPA and Jessica treatments.”
