Exeter Cathedral’s 300,000 piece LEGO® re-build

The first bricks in Exeter Cathedral’s Big LEGO® Build will be laid next week at a special ceremony to launch the project.

The Bishop of Exeter Robert Atwell will be joined by the winners of a Devon-wide schools’ competition to get the epic LEGO build underway, just in time for half term.

The final model, made up of 300,000 LEGO bricks, will be an impressive 3.6m long, 2m wide and 1m high.

Everyone is invited to get involved in the build and for every £1 donated people can add a brick to the model. February half term will be the first opportunity for members of the public to drop-in and get involved in the earliest stages of the build. 

Exeter is one of just three Cathedrals in the country to have its own LEGO model.

Paul Courtney, Development Director at the Cathedral, said: "We are so excited to be launching such an ambitious and fun-filled project and we hope that everyone will want to get involved.

"This is a great opportunity to help preserve, conserve and share the rich heritage of the Cathedral in a new and exciting way.”

The Big LEGO® Build launches on Thursday 11th February at 11am and members of the public will be able to view the model during normal visiting hours as the project progresses.
