Job vacancy – Assistant in Vegetable Packhouse

Shillingford Organics is a commercial organic farm, growing a wide range of vegetables, salad, fruit and herbs.  We grow on 45 acres, selling through our Vegetable Box Scheme, On-line shop and Exeter Farmers Market as well as supplying local retail outlets.

To survive and flourish we have efficient systems, work well together and supply great produce.

Job description

Mainly working in our packhouse, this role will involve bagging up a range of different vegetables, fulfilling individual shop orders and packing our Vegetable Boxes.

It is a responsible job, as this role will require controlling the quality of the produce reaching our customers, as well as downloading the weekly orders from our easy to use computer database.

The position will sometimes also involve harvesting produce, potato grading, keeping the packhouse ordered, washing crates, etc.

The job is physically demanding and the applicant will be standing for much of their working time.

Essential

Working 3 days a week, this job is ideal for someone who wants to work quickly and efficiently and is self-sufficient.

Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy is paramount to ensure the consistency and quality of our produce.

This person must be an excellent team player and considerate to others; be tidy and adaptable to changes in working needs.

The successful applicant will need to have basic computer skills and comply with food hygiene regulations.

Desirable

Amiable and enthusiastic, with a passion for organic and good food.

A basic knowledge of vegetables

Experience of working to deadlines

Details:

Hours: 3 days for 8 hours a day - Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Start time: 7am

There will be a 3-month probationary period.  Holiday time will be restricted between May and September as this is the busiest time of the year.
