Flybe crew goes back to school
Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, headed to its local school, Cranbrook Education Campus yesterday (11th July 2018) with an enthusiastic team to inspire the next generation of recruits with a talk on aviation-related careers.
Some 150 students aged 11 to 14 enjoyed getting up close and personal during an interactive talk with some of Flybe’s pilots, cabin crew and engineers who gave interesting insights into how they qualified for their particular role, the training they received, explained their own individual path to joining the airline – and what their day-to-day jobs involved.
Flybe speakers taking part included Sophia Webb, a 22-year old engineering apprentice who spoke about how she got into engineering and the on-the-job experience she is gaining from the airline’s Engineering Diploma programme conducted in partnership with Exeter College that incorporates working alongside seasoned professionals in Flybe’s New Walker maintenance hangars at Exeter Airport.
Cranbrook Education Campus is located just two miles from Flybe’s Exeter HQ at Exeter Airport and Flybe last year sponsored the Primary School library boosted by staff donating some much-needed books.
Hannah Foster, Director of People at Flybe, commented: “Being given an opportunity to inspire the next generation of students to consider embarking on some of the many careers in the aviation world was an honour. I know that those that took time out of their day to take part really enjoyed the experience in sharing their own individual roles at Flybe. We have over 2,000 employees across the business, of which almost 1,000 are here with us in Exeter. So who knows, maybe in the next few years, we will be welcoming some of the Cranbrook students to our Flybe family.”
Stephen Farmer, Headteacher at Cranbrook Education Campus said: “Our pupils were very lucky to hear from the Flybe staff about their exciting jobs and the routes they took to their employment. We are grateful that Flybe staff took time out to inspire our pupils and hope that some of our pupils will pursue a career in aviation in the future.”
