Digital Minister praises Cyber Security Week
There’s been more praise for Exeter businesses organising this week’s Cyber Security Awareness Week.
The Minister of State for Digital and Culture, Matt Hancock has sent a message congratulating them on taking the problem head on.
‘It’s great to see businesses in Exeter and the south West getting together to tackle this growing area of concern,’ he said
Mr Hancock said cyber security is a top government priority, with a £1.9 billion investment to make the UK the safest place to live and do business online. He urged all businesses to take up free advice and training available online and adopt the Cyber Essentials scheme.
Exeter’s event has been praised by the city’s own movers and shakers.
Celebrity Chef Michael Caines said the event was typical of Exeter and East Devon being places full of people with energy and vision.
MP Ben Bradshaw expressed his pride in Exeter being a ‘vibrant go-ahead city’ by facing up to the challenges that can make or break businesses if precautions aren’t take to defend themselves online.
Ben Rhodes, Chief Executive of Devon and Cornwall Business Council, who will be speaking at the final event on Friday, said it was crucial these messages were shared.
Meanwhile Karime Hassan, Chief Executive of Exeter City Council, praised the programme for being outstanding and extremely comprehensive.
‘Hats off to the organisers for showing the rest of the UK how it’s done,’ he said.
The event, lead by Bluegrass Computer Services, will also be demonstrating how live ransomware attacks happen and will show delegates a map of the world showing live cyber attacks as they happen.
There were more than 2.5 million cyber attacks on UK businesses in 2015, according to the Office for National Statistics.
