With business booming in its Gandy Street shop, The Recycled Candle Company is putting out a call for even more used candles.
As the UK’s only candle recycling business, The Recycled Candle Company melts down old candles and uses the wax to make new ones, The process means that old candles don’t become part of landfill, in line with current thinking that it is far better to reuse materials wherever possible.
Richard Hills-Ingyon, who founded the company with Sargon Latchin said: “We’re eager to talk to anyone who uses candles in large quantities and currently puts them in general waste.
“How much greener would it be for these candles to be reused and made into beautiful new candles for others to enjoy? We call this our candle amnesty!”
Currently the business saves over 300kg of wax being added to landfill each month, but this figure could soar if more businesses get on board.
This candle recycling initiative is ideal for hospitality businesses such as hotels and restaurants as well as churches using candles for services. Richard added: “We can either arrange to collect the candles, or we can take delivery at the shop.”
The Recycled Candle Company makes branded votives for hospitality clients, so there is scope for a reciprocal agreement to be reached, meaning both parties benefit even more from the candle amnesty.
And as well as large quantities, Richard and Sargon are happy to take smaller numbers of candles from individuals in return for a discount on future purchases.
Sargon said: “We are firm believers in rewarding anyone who donates candles to the cause.
“Candle production is intensifying in the run up to Christmas so even if someone has just a bagful of tealights, we will be delighted to receive these.”
