The Only Thing We Have To Fear Is Fear Itself!

If you’re waiting for your customers to come to you with their next order you’ve got a fundamental problem – you’re taking part in the Waiting Game. It was Franklin Delano Roosevelt that said “The Only Thing We Have To Fear Is Fear Itself” and nothing is truer in business than this.

Your existing customer base can hold hidden treasures in terms of extra business. How proactive are you at going after it? Do you think ‘If I contact them then I run the risk of hassling them and then they won’t use me anymore’ – If this is your mindset then think again.

How well do you know your customers? Take a website company that’s done some good work for a number of clients over the years but it’s all been one-off type work. What can they do about getting more business from these clients? Although the answer seems very obvious a number of businesses think that customers will come to them if they wait long enough!

Be pro-active – look at the industries in which your customers operate and see how you might help them compete. Technology is moving at such a fast pace that there is always something new to introduce or some fine tuning to be done that your customers will benefit from. Once you’ve identified these areas and how this might help your clients, get in touch with them and book a meeting to go over new opportunities with them. If you do quarterly reviews on each of your clients you are going to see increased business generated throughout the year and the more you do the more business you will generate. Clients will listen if they think what you’re offering will increase their income too. If you make your clients more competitive, additional business will result.

Always look at your existing client base first and don’t be afraid to ask them if they know of anyone who would benefit from your skill set – word of mouth recommendations are worth their weight in gold!
