WBW promote Exeter solicitor to partner
Exeter solicitor Debbie Hamzij, who started as a receptionist, has recently been promoted to partner within law firm WBW.
Debbie first entered the legal profession in June 1987 in a clerical role with a firm which amalgamated with WBW Solicitors in 1989. She then became a secretary and later rose to become a legal executive in 1996. After studying at Exeter University, she qualified as a solicitor in 2003.
Mrs Hamzij said: “It’s a nice feeling to have gone from receptionist to partner. I have always believed in working hard and it’s great to have got to where I am now. The firm have been incredibly supportive in helping me progress my career, allowing me a year out to go to university and I am delighted to have become a partner.”
Debbie has extensive experience with sales, purchases, transfers of equity, remortgage work, leasehold and freehold properties and claims for adverse possession. She has a good base of local knowledge and has a good rapport with local estate agents and other professionals. Much of her work comes from personal recommendations.
Managing partner Steve Bulman said: “Debbie is a huge asset to the firm and I am delighted that she has been promoted to partner. This advance is a testament to all her hard work a dedication.”
Exeter-born Debbie explained the advantages of taking a vocational route to her current position: “The benefits are learning on the job, so you can learn the job as well as learning the legal side at the same time and you know what you are qualifying into.
Learning on the job and the experience you gain is invaluable. It is hard work as you have to study outside of office hours, but all worth it in the end.”
