Brownies learn about the community value of Hospiscare
Hospiscare’s latest shop opened in Heavitree in March and is already doing a roaring trade in a range of electrical goods, homeware, clothes, and second-hand books.
Recently, however, the shop took on a more educational role as the manager Bonnie Gilbert was invited to visit the Heavitree Brownie Troop to share the importance of the work that Hospiscare does.
“The Brownies, all between the ages of seven and ten, were studying the theme of ‘community’, so it seemed like the ideal opportunity to teach them about the importance of Hospiscare and how the charity supports local patients and their families,” says Bonnie.
She was accompanied by Hospiscare fundraiser Tom Gilbert when visiting the Brownies on Monday 8th May, and says, “The Brownies engaged thoughtfully during the talk about the work we do, and the importance of volunteers and donations in helping our shops. They helped sort a large bag of donations, making decisions on what was suitable to sell and what should be recycled. We also gave them leaflets on the forthcoming Hospiscare Breakfast Run in September. It was very useful for the troop and great to see them so interested in what we do to help the local community.”
If you want to have a chat about volunteering for Hospiscare in the new Heavitree shop, please pop in to meet Bonnie in person. Other Hospiscare shops are also looking for volunteers, if you are interested please call 01392 688005 or email volunteering@hospiscare.co.uk.
