Festive daredevils wanted to abseil from Exeter’s Princesshay Shopping Centre
Local residents are being challenged to abseil 80 feet down the side of Princesshay Shopping Centre dressed as Santa for charity.
Action for Children is seeking daredevils who will raise vital funds for the country’s most vulnerable children, young people and their families by taking part in its Advent Abseil on Saturday 30 November.
It is hoped the event will see hordes of Santas stepping safely off the top of the local landmark, 80 feet up in the air.
Action for Children fundraiser, Jamie Lee, said: “Christmas can be a very difficult time for many families. By dressing as Santa and abseiling 80 feet down the side of the Shopping Centre, you can help raise awareness and support to help make their Christmas a better one.
“This is a rare and exciting opportunity to take in the city of Exeter from a different point of view whilst helping a great cause. Places for the abseil are limited and they tend to run out quickly, so if you’re brave enough to take on this amazing challenge, get in quick before it’s too late!”
Money raised for Action for Children will help support more than 600 services for vulnerable children and young people across the UK. These include adoption and fostering services, practical home-based support for struggling families, and a wide range of services supporting children and young people who are disabled, have learning disabilities or who need residential short breaks.
Participants will be given a Santa suit for the abseil, as well as festive refreshments on the day. Everyone that takes part will also get a free medal and certificate on completing the challenge and anyone who raised more than £100 will be able to keep their abseiling Santa suit.
Registration for the event is £10 and all participants are asked to raise a minimum of £75 for Action for Children. Participants must be aged 8 years or over; and parental consent is required for participants aged under 18 years.
