A night under the stars for Hospiscare ladies

More than 350 women from Exeter, mid and east Devon enjoyed a walk along the seaside town of Exmouth Seafront on May 10 in support of Hospiscare, their local hospice charity.

The 12k walk started and finished at Exmouth rugby club with spectacular views along the seaside and through the nearby countryside to raise money for the charity.

Those taking part in the walk included groups of friends, mothers, daughters and colleagues dressed in sparkly outfits and wearing bunny ears in aid of a really good cause. The walk started with a lively Zumba warm up lead by local instructors Hollie and Deborah from Zumba® Exmouth and the energetic Exmouth Rugby Club boys!

After walking 12k under the stars the ladies enjoyed refreshments and entertainment from the Exmouth Sea Shanty men.

One of the walkers, Jane Purwar said: “I had such a great time, the atmosphere was amazing. My friends and I will definitely be taking part again next year in 2015.”

Event sponsors Every’s Solicitors are offering the top fundraiser £500 which will be announced by 30 May.

The ladies-only walk is one of the charities key fundraising events, raising more than £30,000 each year, enabling the charity to continue providing specialist support and end of life care to patients in Exeter, mid and east Devon and their families.

Event Fundraiser Hannah Slater said: “It was a lovely atmosphere to see all the flashing bunny ears, sparkling hats and tutus. So far over £12,000 has been raised from the walk with more money still coming in. Ladies, remember to send your money in by May 30th to be in with a chance of winning the £500 cash prize from Everys solicitors’’.
