Ethical butchers and restaurant Rusty Pig has announced a charity partnership with emergency couriers Devon Freewheelers for 2015.

Chef Robin Rea and his team are busy planning various events to be held at the Ottery St Mary eaterie throughout the year, including quizzes and themed dining.

Robin said: “I’ve been aware of the charity for some time and I really admire the selfless work carried out by the volunteer riders. They do a great job for the people of Devon, and I’m delighted to support them.”

Additionally, Robin is hoping to run a food stand at this year’s Honiton Sausage & Cider festival taking place on May 1 and 2 at the Honiton Showground.

“The festival also raises funds for the Devon Freewheelers ‒ as well as other local causes,” explained Robin. “Last year the site ran out of sausages far too early, so I’m going along as a local producer to keep festival goers fed and happy!”

The Devon Freewheelers provides a free out-of-hours service to the NHS, delivering blood and other urgent medical supplies to hospitals around the county. The service is kept operational through donations from the public and businesses.
