Making the grade! Adult learners collect their GCSE results from Learn Devon
Adult learners at Learn Devon were among those who endured the nerve-racking moment of collecting their GCSE results yesterday.
Learn Devon, Devon County Council’s adult education service, offers free GCSE English and maths qualifications, with courses that start in September and in January.
In Exmouth, Andrew Morgan achieved a grade 5 in his English GCSE. He said: “I’m delighted, it's has been a long year and I have had to work really hard and I'm now feeling really relieved. Thanks to Learn Devon, especially to the learning support team for their help.”
Jiyong Park, who collected her GCSE Maths results in Exmouth, said: “I’m really excited to get my maths result. A lot of work but I got the result I wanted. This has been my first exam for a while.”
In Tavistock, the course tutors received plenty of praise from learners.
Alina Nishkur said: “Sessions were intense but helpful, the tutors were brilliant. Very clear well taught course. Good feedback.”
Kelly Lillicrap added: “Owen is the best tutor, he's got so much patience and he's always at hand to help and just an email away.”
In Newton Abbot, Jasmine Barnes achieved grade 7 in English and grade 5 in Maths. It means she is now able to enrol on an Access to Health Care Professionals course at South Devon College and in the longer term she is planning to go to university to study Midwifery.
Councillor Rufus Gilbert, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Economic Recovery and Skills, said: “Gaining a GCSE qualification is a fantastic achievement and all of the learners who have studied their GCSEs with Learn Devon should feel extremely proud. Many of them have managed to fit in their studies around family and work commitments which is no mean feat and makes their results thoroughly well deserved. Congratulations to everyone.”
