Royal approval for Exeter School pupils
Three Economics A Level pupils from Exeter School have been highly commended in the prestigious Royal Economics Society Essay competition.
Max Brewer, Matthew Hills and Charlie Holmes wrote essays on one of six different topics, competing against over 1,600 entrants.
Upper Sixth Former Max was placed on the shortlist of final entrants, putting him in the top ten for his essay entitled: ‘Promoting growth and fighting poverty should be the priority in the developing world, not reducing greenhouse gases’.
Matthew Hills wrote an essay on the same topic for which he was highly commended.
Charlie Holmes's essay entitled ‘Is Independence consistent with Scotland keeping the Pound’ was also highly commended.
Finalist Max said he was delighted to be shortlisted.
“It was a very interesting topic and I enjoyed furthering my knowledge in this area,” he said.
Head of Economics Mr Mackintosh said: “Out of over 1,600 entrants nationally, Exeter School had three students in the Commended/Shortlist section, which was only matched by Eton.”
