West Exe thrilled with best ever GCSE results

West Exe Technology College is today celebrating its best ever GCSE results and staff and Governors are looking forward to sharing their pride and delight with students when they collect their individual results tomorrow.

A fantastic 65% of students achieved 5 or more GCSEs at A*- C grade including English and Maths and a staggering 92% achieved 5+ A*- C grades. This is even better than last year’s record results when 56% of students achieved 5 or more GCSEs at A*- C grade including English and Maths and 90% achieved 5+A*- C grades.  The results are also well above ambitious targets of 56% and 79% respectively.

Headteacher Vicki Carah said “We are absolutely thrilled with these results, students worked extremely hard and these outcomes are so well deserved. This was a really great year group who should be incredibly proud of themselves as they take these results onto the next exciting step in their lives.  The results are also a reflection of very hard work by teachers to ensure that students did their very best and I am looking forward to celebrating with them too.  We can take these results and build on them in future, this is a brilliant place for the school to be in at this time.

"This success stretches across the whole spectrum of ability too which is really important to us at West Exe Technology College.  From our top achiever with 12 A and A* grades to those who found learning really hard, everyone has done well. Every single one of the 260 students in Y11 achieved at least one A*- G, 99.62% achieved at least one C grade and 98.85% achieved at least 5 GCSE grades.  Staff didn’t give up on a single child and it is so pleasing to see all our students achieve.

"We are especially delighted with the anticipated improvement in our English results, the continued excellent performance in Maths, very positive results in Triple Science and outstanding results in Art, ICT, Design and Technology GCSE subjects, particularly Control Systems, Graphics, Food and a range of BTEC subjects.

Our top achievers have excelled themselves with five gaining 10 or more A-A* grades and many achieving far better than predicted.”

In a year group comprising eight sets of twins, one pair of girls gained 14.5 high grades each and one set of boys gained 12.5 GCSE high grades each and over 15 A-A* grades between them.  Remarkable double achievements!

Chair of Governors Peter Scott said “These results are great news for West Exe and reflect the tremendous effort that has been put in by students, backed by a great team of teachers who were determined to maximise student potential, giving them the results they deserve.  This increase in achievement is exactly what West Exe deserves as it moves forward.”

Vicki Carah concluded “When we celebrate with individuals, some of whom have done exceptionally well, I think we will find these results have opened doors to young people to do the things they have dreamt of – and that’s what we’re all about!”
