VIP wanted to launch Exeter Monopoly board

It has been described as Britain’s poshest city – too upmarket to have an Old Kent Road equivalent - so now Monopoly makers are offering one Exeter person the chance to be treated “all posh” for a day.

The official Monopoly board for Exeter will be launched at a city ceremony on Wednesday 7 October, and as part of the celebrations the board’s makers are on the lookout for a ‘VIP’ to launch the board.... Very Important Posh-person that is!

Earlier in the year it was reported in the national and regional media how Exeter could be too well-heeled to have an Old Kent Road equivalent.

At the time a civic leader was reported as saying: “Nowhere in Exeter would be suitable for Old Kent Road”. But now games bosses say the joke could be on them.

Dan Taylor, Monopoly Development Director at Winning Moves, is keeping tight-lipped about whether (or which) Exeter landmark would appear on Old Kent Road, adding: “We are putting the final touches on the board. All will be revealed on October 7th.”

Monopoly is known as the world’s most famous board game brand and this year celebrates its 80th anniversary.

Members of the public are being invited to write poems, ditties and verses on why they look forward to Exeter being immortalised with its very own unique board. 

The winner will get to collect the first board produced (which will be signed) and play the very first game, publicly.

At the event there will be posh food – “probably posh pasties” adds Mr Taylor.

In all, 22 Monopoly property sites will take on an Exeter flavour and feel, with the Chance and Community Chest playing cards heavily customised too. The four train stations from the original London board will take on a ‘travel’ theme.

Winning Moves are the makers of this unique board under official license from Monopoly owners Hasbro.

The new board will be available at all good toy and book stores including at Argos, Smyths, Waterstones and WH Smith on 7th October (2015),The board will also be very widely available online, including amazon.co.uk

ENTRY DETAILS:

Anyone aged six and upwards can enter.

In up to 50 words on why the nominee or nominated person “deserves to be a posh Monopoly VIP for the day”.

Entries close at midnight on 15 August 2015.
