InExeter announces backing for nine city centre events and projects
InExeter has announced funding support for a series of events and projects. Six events have secured funding from the city’s business improvement district, each of which add vibrancy to Exeter’s cultural offering.
The, new for 2019, Exeter Festival is among the events to receive backing: the event, taking place over the weekend of 5-7 July, will see three days of films, music and entertainment in Northernhay Gardens. Other events receiving a share of the £8,000 pot include Exeter Fringe Festival, Big Screen in the Park, Women of the World Mini Festival, Exeter Pride and Quirk Theatre, producers of the family Christmas show at Exeter Phoenix.
Three further projects and initiatives have received backing from InExeter: the restoration of the St Nicholas Priory Garden by Exeter Historic Buildings Trust, support for a website for innovative initiative Plastic Free Exeter and funding towards the valuable and voluntary work undertaken by Exeter Street Pastors every Friday and Saturday night.
Ann Hunter, InExeter manager, said: “We were thrilled with the volume and quality of applications we received. The InExeter board agreed that the festivals and events selected bring a diverse programme of events to Exeter’s residents and visitors and the three projects allocated funding each play an important role in the city. We are proud to support these events and initiatives.”
On renewal of InExeter, due to go to vote in Autumn 2019, the group hopes to release a second round of funding to support and enable more events in the first half of 2020.
