Digital art for a new generation
An exhibition of digital art at Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) and a festival at RAMM and Exeter Phoenix this spring will celebrate the achievements of young artists and introduce 21st-century techniques to new audiences.
In the RAMM Cafe from 17 April to 1 July, the Machina exhibition features young people’s innovative digital art. The display includes gif animations, digital paintings and installations using apps, smartphone technology, coding and other digital techniques. Traditional media such as painting and printmaking add further variety. Objects in RAMM and The Box Plymouth’s museum collections inspired many of the artworks.
The Machina Festival on Sunday 22 April is a celebration of digital art. It includes exhibitions and screenings of young people’s work, workshops, demonstrations and talks. Young people, their families and educators are invited to come and view the work and join in digital art making activities. Full details and tickets are available on the Phoenix Arts Centre website.
Organised by Daisi, the Museums Machina project has enabled Devon artists and young people to share innovative digital techniques, creating innovative art inspired by RAMM and Plymouth museum’s The Box collections. Based in Devon, Daisi promotes arts inspired learning for young people and communities.
