Ensuite at the Bike Shed
This November, Exeter is in for a blast of high-energy comedy as Ensuite kicks off its UK tour at the Bike Shed Theatre. Ensuite is Hugh McCann’s debut show which he has both written and performs, with direction from New Model Theatre’s Tom Nicholas.
Ensuite is a coming of age story, following the macbook-toting avant garde of Shoreditch, and Hugh’s attempt to become one. It’s a tale of dreamers, all trying to be unique, together. It is an energetic tour-de-force performance from McCann partly drawn from his own experiences at St Martin’s College of Art.
An early version of Ensuite was shown this January at From Devon With Love, The Bike Shed Theatre’s celebration of locally-made work, with Exeunt Magazine saying, “McCann is an incredibly likeable performer, and this piece reveals that he is also a gifted writer adept at weaving numerous narrative strands into an engaging whole.”
Hugh McCann is an Exeter based writer and performer, recent work includes nationally touring with New Model Theatre’s Static, and he is currently writing for Theatre West. Hugh trained in fine art, and brings unique visual elements to his theatre making.
Hugh said: 'I wanted to tell a story that I feel defines a lot of young people, but I wanted to do it with a sense of humour and optimism, and whilst dark and absurd at points, I believe the trials and tribulations of youth are to be celebrated, which is what I hope this play is - a celebration of reckless youth. It’s great to be able to start this incredibly exciting UK tour in my hometown of Exeter and the support from the great team at the Bike Shed has been really helped us to take this show to the next level.'
Ensuite will be performed at the Bike Shed Theatre from Tuesday 3rd - Saturday 7th November at 7.45pm.
