Devon has added another success story to its books, with the announcement that Exeter girl group Wildwood Kin have won in the Open Mic UK Competition.

Open Mic UK offers entrants not only the chance to win prizes, but the opportunity to perform live to capacity audiences at some of the best venues in the country, with the Grand Final being held at The NEC in Birmingham! Huge crowds, record industry A & R and celebrity judges are there to cast their eye over the talent along the way.

Exeter girl group Wildwood Kin impressed judges at the audition stages and during a large live performance at St George's in Bristol.

It was their amazing performance of their self-penned hit ‘Steadfast’ which won over the judges in Birmingham making the girls the winners of the 17 to 20’s age category.

By winning this prestigious competition the girls have secured themselves a recording and development deal, and it would seem they are extremely excited.

They said:“We are so amazed and privileged that the judges and the audience liked our music. It's really boosted our confidence!”

It would seem that another Devon star also helped to inspire the trio.

They added:

“We are big fans of Birdy and Luke Friend who both won the competition in previous years. The competition seemed to be a great platform for them, so that was mainly what inspired us to give it a go.”

You would think the girls would be enjoying a well-earned break before work for their recording and development deal begins, but you would be wrong! The work never stops for these hard working girls.

They continued:

“We're focusing on song writing at the moment in preparation to record, but we're also gigging and busking around locally - look out for us in the pubs and streets of Exeter!”

Wildwood Kin were not the only Devon success story of the Open Mic UK competition.

15 year old Charlotte Ward, from Exeter, also bagged herself a day in a recording studio with Shockerwick Studios.
