Expect adventure at Exeter Phoenix this Christma
Quirk Theatre will return to Exeter Phoenix this Christmas with an all-new show full of adventure, intrigue and their own hilarious sense of the ridiculous! Marking their sixteenth festive co-production with Exeter Phoenix, Puffin Island will see Quirk Theatre doing what they do best – bringing generations of families together for an inventive and unforgettable live theatre experience.
This brand new show has been inspired by Devon’s very own Lundy Island puffins, and invites families to embark on an adventurous journey to Puffin Island to join the island’s residents and famous puffins for the annual Puffin Day celebrations. On Puffin Island, nothing particularly out of the ordinary ever happens until, quite unexpectedly, an orphaned baby boy washes up on the beach in a little boat. When the puffins suddenly disappear and no one knows why, it seems this boy is the only one with the power to bring them home in time for Puffin Day.
With preparations now in full swing, Quirk’s founding member Simon Hall said: ‘We are more than excited as all the different factions of the show are coming together. The first tunes are arriving from our composer, the model of our stage set is being made, and the last lines of the script are being typed up. We can’t wait to bring this poignant and hilarious tale of community, island life and puffins to our audience.‘
Speaking about the partnership, Exeter Phoenix’s director, Patrick Cunningham, said: ‘It just wouldn’t feel like Christmas in Exeter without Quirk Theatre, so we are delighted to be welcoming the team back for what is sure to be another brilliant show for all the family. Puffin Island is sure to continue Quirk’s wonderful tradition of igniting young imaginations across Devon at Christmas time, and Exeter Phoenix is proud to be a part of that tradition.’
With inventive staging, lively songs and plenty of fun opportunities for the audience to get involved in the action, Quirk Theatre offer an innovative alternative to the traditional pantomime. Their creative approach is the perfect introduction to the world of theatre and has all the ingredients of the ideal theatrical treat for the whole family. Performances take place between Sunday 16th and Fri 28th December. There will be a BSL interpreted performance on Thursday 20th December and a Relaxed Performance on Sunday 16th December.
