Humbug! Raising the bar with a new Christmas show
Humbug! Brand new Christmas show set to delight audiences in Exeter's newly re-opened St Nicholas Priory.
Award-winning film and theatre company, Wandering Tiger, are staging Humbug! their brand new Christmas show at Exeter's historic St Nicholas Priory from Thursday 14 – Sunday 24 December 2017.
Inspired by Charles Dickens’ classic ghost story ‘A Christmas Carol’, Humbug! will be the first public event to take place in over two years in the recently restored medieval priory, which is just off Exeter's Fore Street.
Humbug! will transport audiences back in time to the world of Ebenezer Scrooge and features live music, video projections and plenty of surprises. Arguably the most popular of Dickens' tales, 'A Christmas Carol' was originally published in 1843 and has seen many adaptations for both stage and screen since. This reimagining of the story is an immersive, multi-sensory Christmas experience that is sure to appeal to audiences young and old.
The Exeter Historic Buildings Trust are reopening the priory after a two years of major renovation, providing a unique festive experience, giving people the chance to enjoy this beautiful medieval building in the company of Mr Scrooge and his ghostly companions.
Wandering Tiger, the creators of Humbug!, were delighted to win the Arts category at this year’s Exeter Living Awards for their work in film and theatre, which includes the family theatre show Granny Eyeball and the award-winning short film Hell's Bells.
Wandering Tiger’s Director, Luke Jeffery says: “We want to offer audiences something a bit different this festive season. Humbug! is more than just a stage show, it’s an interactive experience. We want to get people in the Christmas spirit and perhaps scare them a little too!”
Founded in 1087, St Nicholas Priory was home to Benedictine monks for over 400 years. In 1536, like other monasteries, it was closed and the remains became the home of wealthy Tudor merchants.
