Seasonal concert with a traditional twist
Wren Music is bringing together five choirs and one of its youth groups, to present a seasonal winter celebration of singing this year. There will be over 100 singers, mince pies, mulled wine and a Christmas hamper raffle all in the lovely setting of St. David’s Church Exeter.
The event takes place on Saturday 19th December and the concert begins at 7.30pm. Admission is by donation and the proceeds of the night will go towards Wren’s youth programme.
Refreshments are by Ale and Cake which is a sister project to Wren who are providing quality refreshments at many of our winter events this year
Musical director at Wren Music, Paul Wilson, said “Our choirs love to meet up and sing together . . we have all learned special repertoire for this concert, as well as a few show stoppers to finish the night.”
Wren’s lead singing tutor Sarah Owen says “We’ve got a lovely mix of singers performing for this concert. There’s a huge age range taking part and performers travelling from all over Devon. Each choir has prepared something unique for the occasion – it’ll be a treasure box of unusual Christmas and winter songs.”
North Devon Choir leader Nick Wyke says “The choirs have all been working hard and we’re really looking forward to seeing in the festive season in Exeter.”
Some of the songs will be fabulous old folk carols, a few new arrangements of very well known pieces and still others have been written specially for this event.
The Exeter Voices In Common Choir is hosting the event, and other Wren Music choirs will join them from South Molton, Torbay, Sidmouth and Okehampton.
Wren Music CEO Marilyn Tucker said “We’re very proud of our singing leaders and all they do for our choirs. I’m especially keen to hear the young Roots A Capella choir on this occasion run by Jon Dyer and Sarah Owen. They’ve been very busy this Autumn, including formal concerts as well as busking around Exeter and this is their final appearance this year.”
So come along to St. David’s Church with a hunger for mince pies and sit back and listen to the warmly wonderful weaving harmonies.
