Special offer for cyclists visiting Powderham Castle
To celebrate Britain’s recent success at the Rio Olympics and to welcome the Tour of Britain to Devon, Powderham is offering 50% off the full entrance price to everyone visiting the castle and grounds by bicycle in the week of the Tour of Britain, 4 – 11 September.
The Devon stage will be on Friday 9 September, the sixth stage of the tour. The leg will begin in Sidmouth and finish at Haytor on Dartmoor. Whilst considered one of the most beautiful stages of the tour, it is also the most gruelling covering a distance of 93 miles and 3,100 metres of climbs.
The Tour of Britain is British cycling’s premier road cycling event and the country’s largest annual free-to-spectate sporting event. The event dates back to the 1950’s, but the Tour of Britain has existed in various guises over the years. The modern edition was revived in 2004 and the Tour of Britain is now a cornerstone of the sporting year and the country’s biggest cycle race.
The 600-year old family seat of the Earl of Devon, Powderham Castle, is situated along the family-friendly Exe Estuary Trail. From Exeter Quay it is about 6 miles to Powderham Castle. The route is traffic free with a section of quiet road between Powderham Church and the castle. From Dawlish it is about 4 miles along a mixture of quiet roads and traffic free sections.
