Half-term fun at Castle Drogo

There’s lot’s going on at Castle Drogo this half-term – from following a nature trail to building a home for nature.

“Castle Drogo and the surrounding 700 acre estate is the perfect place to explore, get muddy, jump in a puddle and build a den,” says Visitor Services Assistant, April Braund.

Every day, from Saturday 14 to Sunday 22 February, 11am-4pm, families can follow a nature trail through the grounds to discover more about the wildlife that lives around the castle. The trail costs £1.50 and includes a prize at the end.

Families can also become part of a ‘Wild Tribe’ by taking part in activities with the Dartmoor ranger team. On Saturday 14 February, 11am-3pm, they can build a home for nature; or on Saturday 21 February, 11am-3pm, they can test out survival skills with a fire lighting masterclass.  (Booking is essential via the Castle Drogo website – adult £6, child £4).

The fun continues on Tuesday 17 February, 11am-4pm, when children can create a spring craft in the activity hut and take it home (a small charge applies for the craft).

The castle itself will be closed over half-term as staff and volunteer prepare for the next phase of the building project to make the castle watertight. It will reopen on Monday 9 March with brand new artistic installations to bring to life the Castle’s stories and show its collection in a whole new way.
