An Arctic zoo, charity giving and a children’s TV favourite all feature at Living Coasts over the Christmas period.

Santa is bringing his toy zoo to Living Coasts. A special Grotto will be surrounded by snow scenes filled with cuddly Arctic animals, including Arctic fox, reindeer, snowy owl, Arctic hare and polar bear. Eskimos – themselves an endangered species – will also feature.

The Grotto will be open every weekend in December from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm as well as Monday 17th to Friday 21st December. It costs £4.95 for children (this does not include entry to Living Coasts), while adults and seniors are free. In addition, Torquay’s coastal zoo and aquarium will have a special penguin trail with a prize for everyone who completes it successfully.

During the festive period Living Coasts is joining forces with Palm FM to support the radio station’s Give-A-Gift campaign, which aims to encourage people to donate gifts for people in hospitals and nursing homes. Living Coasts will act as a drop-off point for gifts - visitors will also be able to buy Give-A-Gift presents and leave them with the team to be wrapped.

Meanwhile, children’s television favourite Captain Barnacles will be at Living Coasts on Saturday 29th December. There will be no charge to meet Captain Barnacles other than the normal entry price. A special breakfast with Captain Barnacles will be a separate bookable event.

The coastal zoo and aquarium is almost fully booked for Christmas parties, but still has spaces on its special quiet nights and for its Sunday and weekday lunches over the Christmas period.
