New friendship group for Exeter's single parent families
Exeter Gingerbread is a friendship group for single parent families in the area. The group started out as a few single parent families from my children's school, meeting up once a month over last summer. I found it wonderfully supportive and wanting to reach as many single parent families as possible, decided to set up a Gingerbread group for the whole Exeter and surrounding area.
Gingerbread is a national charitable organisation which provides support and advice for single parent families. I had a very positive experience of Gingerbread from going to a local group when I was a child with my mother so that also encouraged me to set the group up.
We are a friendly and welcoming group. Families can come along for a coffee and a chat and there are toys and games for children to play with. We are lucky to have a wonderful venue for our meetups at the Hub on the Green, 8 Cathedral Close, Exeter. (www.hubonthegreen.net)
At our next meet up on 13th Feb, 3.30-5.30 there is a crafting session where families can decorate a heart to give as a gift or for their home. There is a small charge of £2.50 per family to cover cost of craft materials. Or people can just sit and chat if preferred while others craft. Just come along and see what it's all about.
