Learn to clown around with the team at Knightshayes, the National Trust property on the outskirts of Tiverton, as it hosts a circus skill workshop badge day this half-term.

On Tuesday 27 May, between 10.30am and 4pm, the event will give scouting and guiding groups the chance to earn their circus skills badge. They will learn skills like plate spinning, diablo and juggling from our Victorian themed circus performer Robin Fox. In addition, they will be shown how to make juggling balls, to use face paint like circus professionals and will perform their newly learnt skills to one another – all essential criteria to earn their badge.

The event will be held in the beautiful Formal and Woodland Garden and is the first time Knightshayes has hosted an event especially for its local scouting and guiding groups. Rachael Hall, Learning and Engagement Officer for Knightshayes said:

‘Knightshayes has a real historic connection with our local scout and guide groups. The last member of the family to live in the house, Joyce Wetherend, was a keen supporter of the girl guides, so we have a historic link with our local packs. I really wanted us to re-create this link, as Knightshayes is a place for our local community groups to be a part of and enjoy. Our Victorian themed circus skills event in May half-term was the perfect opportunity to invite our local groups to Knightshayes and help them earn their badges. I can’t wait to see their hard-work and newly acquired skills earn them their badges.’

60 children have signed up so far from 4 different groups in the Tiverton area, however more spaces are available.

The cost of the activity is £4 per group member, regular admission applies and booking in advance is essential.

This is the first in a series of events to share what Knightshayes has to offer by working in partnership with local community groups in Tiverton, Mid-Devon and beyond.
