Highbullen Hotel appoints Dean Griffin as new head chef

Offering some of the best of British gastronomy in the heart of the Devonshire countryside, Highbullen Hotel has this week announced the appointment of new Head Chef, Dean Griffin.

Dean joins Highbullen Hotel, Golf and Country Club from 4* Menzies Welcombe Hotel & Golf Course, Stratford upon Avon, where he headed up a fine dining restaurant and 150-cover events venue. Other recent posts over his 25-year career include Executive Head Chef at St Ives Harbour Hotel & Spa and Barceló Imperial Hotel, Torquay.

Joining Highbullen shortly following a £1.5 million refurbishment that the 36-room hotel, restaurant and many of the facilities enjoyed earlier this year, Dean will lead the kitchens of all five dining options, including the signature restaurant, The Devon View. So called for its spectacular views across the rolling countryside below, The Devon View specialises in an extensive variety of fresh, seasonal, local produce, complementing more casual offerings found throughout the hotel, including the Cellar Bar which has just launched a menu suited to lighter meals.

Dean commented of his appointment, “I am so thrilled to be joining the team at Highbullen. Knowing that Delia Smith has taken some recipes from the hotel for past books, the culinary heritage here is exceptional, and there is a lot to live up to. It’s a great challenge to rise to – I’ll be overseeing such a diverse range of dining options as well as catering for events moving forwards - and the amazing views certainly make it worth it!”
