Killerton’s Kitchen Restaurant, situated inside the Georgian mansion near Exeter, is to celebrate home-grown ingredients and local cooking talent by throwing open its doors to a new Secret Supper Club.

The fine-dining restaurant, which won Gold in last year’s Taste of the West awards, will open late on the first Wednesday of the month from 2 March until December. Diners can look forward to dishes like venison terrine, pork tenderloin and chilli chocolate fondant made from local produce grown on and around the National Trust estate.

The changing seasonal menus will include produce from the estate and will reflect the estate’s rich farming and growing history. Award-winning cider and apple juice has been produced from Killerton’s orchards since the 1990s and is available in the restaurant; as are dishes made with flour that is still ground at the National Trust’s Clyston Mill, a working watermill that’s been in use since Victorian times.

Marc Crabb, Head Chef, said: “All our dishes are made to order right here on the property – we don’t buy anything in. We’ll be making the most of the great ingredients from estate producers and our menus will change every month depending on what’s in season. We’re also looking forward to trailing our new appetizer and petit four courses.”

The wider Killerton estate is home to 18 farms that supply the restaurant with meat and dairy, and some are award-winning in their own right. Suppliers include Ashclyst Dairy that provides organic milk, yoghurt and cream and Burrow Farm that rears celebrated ruby red beef.

David Ashford, Catering Manager, said: “I think we’re Exeter’s best kept secret, offering high quality fine dining that’s great value. This is a great opportunity to showcase the talents of our chefs – they’re capable of so much more than cream teas. After our Taste of The West Gold award last year, we’re aiming for more industry awards and AA recognition.”

He continued: “The National Trust is a charity and money raised through catering at Killerton is directly reinvested to help us care for the estate. What better way to support the cause. Book to experience a supper club with us as tables are limited.”
