The Moorish Castle Of Silves

The Silves Castle is a remainder of the period when Silves was the capital of the Algarve. The massive construction is one of the oldest castles in the Algarve that is still erect, and it should come on top of your things to see in this area of Portugal. Since 1919, the Moorish Castle of Silves has been included in the national monuments portfolio due to its historic importance. Very well preserved, this castle used to be part of the defensive system of this citadel during the Almohade period, in the 12th and 13th centuries. Just by the entrance, you'll find the statue of King Sancho I who was the one to conquer this citadel back in 1189.

Alvor Boat Trips

Alvor boat trips are a great way to see the beautiful coast of the Algarve with its caves, rock formations and beaches. After your trip you will find a plethora of bars and restaurants to see you into the evening.

Praia Da Marinha

Considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Praia Da Marinha is surrounded by impressive cliffs. Its turquoise water is not only stunningly beautiful but also very clear. This makes this beach the perfect spot for snorkeling lovers. Located between Carvoeiro and Portimao, Praia Da Marinha can be reached only by car unless you are keen walker. In addition, keep in minds that you're going to need to descend some steep stairs to get to the beach.

Wine Tasting

The Algarve is the ideal place to taste some locally produced wines. The climate here is perfect for the growing of vines. Algarve counts four main wine regions: Lagos, Tavira, Portimao, and Lagoa. Many vineyards in these regions are open to the public, so you'll surely have the opportunity to taste some fine wines.

Faro

Unfortunately, most travellers passing through Faro airport overlook the city. However, Faro has a beautiful historic center surrounded by old city walls. The pedestrian shopping street is full of shops and stylish plazas. The Ria Formosa Park is just nearby. If you visit it, you'll have the chance to see wildlife and lots of migratory birds, as well as saltwater lagoons and mudflats. If you want to take some panoramic photos of Ria Formosa, head over to the Cathedral and climb to its top. Faro can be a good camp base for you to explore the other towns in the Algarve, as well as the natural parks around.

The Church Of San Lourenco De Almancil

The town of Almancil is only a few minutes' drive away from Villamoura. Here you'll find this tiny white 18th century church built in a classic Baroque style. Don't let yourself fooled by its rather ordinary look. The interior of this church is nothing short of amazing. You'll see majestic azulejo panels that will charm you with their beauty. The gilded woodwork altar is also a sensational work of art. The blue tiles on the walls depict the life of Sao Lourenco in a memorable way. This church will leave you in awe, so you'll surely fall in love with the Algarve and you'll want to come back again.

Dolphin Watching

The Algarve coast is one of the best places to watch dolphins in their natural habitat. There are many species of dolphins you may come across. If you get lucky, you may also see some sea turtles, sharks, Minke whales and Orca. Keep in mind that dolphins don't come to shallow waters, so you'll need to take a boat for dolphin watching. Such tours take anywhere between one and three hours. They are available from any of the marinas on the Algarve coast (Tavira, Vilamoura, Albufeira, Portimao or Lagos).
