Transform the way you heat your home

Energy bills are spiralling and people are feeling the pinch, especially with boilers being fired up for winter.

Fortunately energy-conscious homeowners will get the chance to learn how to make a massive impact on fuel bills, by switching to a renewable heating system.

On Saturday 2 November, Plumb Center’s Exeter Sowton branch will open its doors to anyone who’s interested in seeing renewables in action, and learning about the government funding that makes installations more affordable than ever. Homeowners will also have the chance to meet qualified local installers, and see the products working up close.

Ofgem estimates that utility bills have gone up an average £300 over the past three years, and many people are looking at alternative ways to power their homes.

Renewable technologies like solar thermal, heat pumps and biomass boilers are rising in popularity because they’re clean, quiet and provide heat very efficiently - and aren’t affected by fluctuating gas and oil prices.

“Renewable energy can change the way we heat our homes,” said Tim Pollard, Head of Sustainability for Plumb Center. “So we’re delighted to help people understand how renewable technologies work, how easy they are to install and the money they can save by switching from their traditional boiler.

“We’re seeing a lot more people living off the mains-gas grid switching to renewables, because they don’t have access to the cheapest fuel, gas, so it’s more compelling for them to start looking at products which are less energy intensive.

“With the domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) launching next spring, there’s an added reason for people to install renewables because they can make money as a reward for generating renewable energy, and our open day will teach people all they need to know about the scheme.

“Our branch in the Sowton Industrial Estate in Exeter has a big showroom which we’ve filled with working examples of the latest renewable products, so people have a chance to see them up close and personal. We’re always happy to meet new people and discuss ideas, so we’re really looking forward to the day,” Tim added.

There will be three sessions on the day, starting at 10am, noon and 2pm.

Optional half-hour seminars are also available, which will provide much more information about the Government’s Renewable Heat Premium Payment Scheme (RHPP) and the domestic RHI, which is due to launch in the spring.
